The Carnevale di Misterbianco
Every costume is a piece of haute couture requiring months of research and imagination, with lace and plays of colour, and can weigh more than 40 kg. Some are on display at the Carnival Museum, in the Stabilimento Monaco in via Municipio.
The associations’ costumes and scenic floats parade through the historic centre, competing every year on new themes. The evening of the défilé is devoted entirely to the costumes. For children there is “A spasso con il Re Burlone”, the schools’ parade with hundreds of children in costume.

History
Since 1981 the Costumi più belli di Sicilia and the scenic floats have brought colour to the streets of Misterbianco’s historic centre. Every year the carnival associations, listed in a municipal register, choose a new theme and compete in the contest organised by the Comune.
Over time the costumes have become true masterpieces of tailoring, and the carnival is now one of the longest-running and best-known on the island, listed in the Register of the Intangible Heritage of Sicily. The finest creations are kept in the Carnival Museum and have carried the name of Misterbianco beyond Italy.
