The Carnevale di Fano, the oldest in Italy, is ready to amaze us with its 2025 edition, on Sundays 16 and 23 February and 2 March. This year’s theme is “In viaggio con il Vulón… i sogni son desideri” (Travelling with the Vulón… dreams are wishes), an invitation to daydream among four new floats, the Pupo dedicated to tennis player Jannik Sinner and plenty of new features for young and old.
The Pupo inspired by Jannik Sinner
Leading the enthusiasm of the people of Fano and visitors will be the Pupo, a work by Mauro Chiappa with the Fantagruel association. It is a tribute to tennis champion Jannik Sinner, ironically titled “Gli Slam son desideri… Wada come Wada”. A play on words about the desire to win and the recent events involving the WADA anti-doping agency, reminding us to face every challenge with a smile.
Four first-category floats
The Carnevale di Fano 2025 unveils four spectacular new floats:
- “Connessioni in corso” by Matteo Angherà: a colourful reflection on our relationship with technology, to find a balance between the virtual and the real.
- “Chi vuol esser lieto sia…” by Daniele Mancini Palamoni: inspired by Lorenzo il Magnifico’s “Trionfo di Bacco e Arianna”, it celebrates the joy of living.
- “Piano ‘B’ a eventi estremi, estremi rimedi” by Valeria Guerra: an ironic take on the climate crisis, following a polar bear in search of new horizons.
- “Clorophilla” by Luca Vassilich: a spell of nature and spirituality to reawaken our sense of wonder and connect us to the world around us.
In total no fewer than 14 floats will parade, across first and second categories, for an explosion of art and creativity through the town’s streets.
A dedicated film
What also makes the Carnevale di Fano 2025 unique is the film directed by Andrea Lodovichetti, which takes us to the heart of this centuries-old festival: traditions, anecdotes and behind the scenes of an event that unites the community around colour, music and fun.
A child-friendly Carnival
For children, as well as the three free morning parades (finishing in piazza XX Settembre), there is a dedicated area in the Pincio gardens, full of rides, music and creative workshops on the theme of recycling. And of course there will be the eagerly awaited “getto”, the throwing of quintals of sweets, which turns the streets of the centre into a paradise of candy and confetti.
Tradition and the future
The official poster is by Maddalena Fano Medas, who reinterpreted the Vulón – the Carnival’s historic mask – inspired by the energy of the Musica Arabita, a folk ensemble founded in 1923. With the claim “Bello da vedere, dolce da gustare” (Lovely to look at, sweet to taste), the 2025 edition confirms Fano’s spirit: a mix of ancient customs, new artistic ideas and a typically Italian touch of irony.
